Step 1: Examination and X-ray
The doctor will perform a general examination, assessing your needs and dental history. Then, you will have intraoral and extraoral photographs, as well as X-rays and lateral cephalometric radiographs, to obtain accurate diagnostic data.
Step 2: Consultation & Treatment Planning
Based on X-ray images, photographs, and supporting software, the dentist determines the extent of misalignment, predicts treatment time, and provides detailed advice on the procedure. Once you agree to treatment, you will have your teeth taken: either the traditional method with braces or the modern 3D scan with clear aligners.
Step 3: Proceed with treatment using orthodontic appliances.
Orthodontic appliances will be manufactured according to the treatment plan. With brackets, the dentist can attach them directly. With clear aligners, from scanning the teeth to receiving the first tray takes about 6–7 weeks, including planning on Clincheck and manufacturing the trays.
Step 4: Wear a retainer.
After achieving optimal orthodontic results, you will wear a retainer for 1–2 years to stabilize the teeth, prevent periodontal ligaments from shifting, and maintain the results long-term.
Duration of orthodontic treatment
On average, it takes about 24 months or more, but this can vary depending on the condition of the teeth, the type of appliance, diet, and oral hygiene and care.
