Full Arch Implant Placement

Full-arch dental implants are the most modern method of restoring missing teeth today. In this procedure, the dentist will implant 4–6 implant posts (made from biomedical titanium) directly into the jawbone, acting as the roots of real teeth. A fixed denture will then be securely attached to these implant posts.

Compared to traditional removable dentures, full-arch implants offer: More stable chewing function, no shifting, no need to remove them for cleaning, prevention of jawbone loss, and maintenance of a youthful appearance.

What type of dental restoration is a full-arch implant system?

Full-arch implant dentures are fixed dentures, custom-made for each individual patient. Commonly used materials include:

  • High-quality plastic dentures: lightweight, affordable, and provide good chewing function.

  • Full porcelain dentures: highly aesthetic, durable, and provide a chewing sensation close to natural teeth.

The teeth are designed to match the face shape, skin tone, and smile, making them look natural, without visible gum lines, and enhancing overall facial aesthetics.

At Viet Anh Dental Clinic, we offer a wide selection of materials for upper dentures and implants, allowing customers to choose from various price points to suit their individual needs.

SUPPORTING PROCEDURES FOR IMPLANT PLACEMENT

Before implantation: Lack of gingival tissue around the implant, uneven gingival margin, making it difficult to ensure aesthetics and long-term durability.

After implantation: Gums are naturally regenerated, providing good coverage around the implant post, resulting in a healthy, harmonious, and stable implant site in the long term.

Before implantation: Thin, recessed gums that do not tightly embrace the implant post, posing a risk of implant neck exposure and peri-implantitis.
After implantation: Thicker and fuller gum tissue that tightly embraces the implant, creating a biological protective barrier and significantly improving aesthetics.

Bone grafting in dental implant procedures

Bone grafting is a supplementary technique in dental implant surgery, indicated when the jawbone at the site of tooth loss is resorbed, lacking sufficient height or thickness for safe and stable implant placement. The dentist will use biological grafting materials (artificial bone, autogenous bone, or allogeneic bone) to regenerate bone volume, creating a solid bone foundation for long-term implant integration.

Depending on the degree of bone loss, bone grafting may be performed simultaneously with implant placement or performed beforehand, allowing for healing before implant placement. After integration, the grafted bone will gradually replace the natural bone, ensuring high implant stability, minimizing complications, and extending the lifespan of the restoration.

  • Before bone grafting: CT images showed that the bone surrounding the implant site had insufficient volume, failing to provide stable support for the implant post.

  • After bone grafting: Radiopaque bone graft material is evenly distributed around the abutment shaft, helping to restore bone volume and facilitating bone integration.

Some frequently asked questions?

In full-arch implant techniques (often called All-on-4 / All-on-6), the dentist doesn’t need to implant a post for each tooth individually, but instead utilizes the principle of intelligent force distribution:

  • 4–5 implants can restore 10–12 teeth/arch.
  • 6 implants can restore 12–14 teeth/arch.

The specific number of teeth to be restored will be calculated by the dentist based on: jawbone density and volume, chewing forces and occlusion, and the condition of remaining teeth and gums.

This helps save costs while still ensuring durability and long-term chewing ability.

The current cost of full-arch dental implants ranges from approximately 85 to 150 million VND per arch, depending on:

  • Type of dental implant

  • Dental prosthetic materials

  • Jawbone condition and treatment techniques

Currently, dental clinics offer mid-range to high-end implant options from manufacturers in South Korea, the USA, France, Switzerland, Germany, and Straumann.

The total treatment time for a full-arch implant typically lasts about 7–10 days, depending on each individual’s health and jawbone condition.

  • Day 1: Implant placement (1-2 hours/arch)

  • After 7–10 days: the implant is stable, the dentist proceeds with taking impressions, trying on wax models, and fitting the dentures.

  • Completion: Attaching the fixed dentures

In many cases, patients may have temporary teeth fitted early to ensure aesthetics and daily activities while waiting.

After full-arch implant placement, a prosthetic denture can be fitted 7-10 days later to ensure aesthetics and chewing function while waiting for the implants to integrate. These dentures can last up to 2-3 years.

Avoid hard, chewy, hot, cold, sour, and spicy foods; and refrain from alcohol and tobacco. Brush your teeth gently and use a water flosser for oral hygiene.

It is usually painless because local anesthesia or general anesthesia is used. The level of discomfort after surgery depends on the complexity of the case and the condition of the jawbone.
